Active industrial building envelopes

IMPROVING THE GLOBAL EFFICIENCY OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONING OF BUILDINGS BY USING RENEWABLE ENERGIES IN ACTIVE INDUSTRIAL BUILDING ENVELOPES.

With a view to fostering sustainable construction and improving quality in the construction sector, ah asociados, through its R&D/Innovation Department, has developed an innovation project to roll out three prototypes for active coverings based on the use of renewable energies and ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies): an opaque ventilated façade and roof, and an open glazed gallery.

Active building envelopes improve overall energy efficiency for the conditioning of the building in terms of natural lighting, solar protection and natural ventilation measures. Envelopes developed with a high level of industrialisation and which integrate domotic control in order to interact with the surroundings. In this respect, solar radiation is used to reduce heating requirements in winter and reduce the demand for air conditioning in summer.

In the three cases, a physical-mathematical model has been developed to adapt their behaviour, and the thermal and energy behaviour of the buildings has been monitored in order to obtain real data for the future development of industrialisable building envelopes in building developments.
