NEW MODELS OF SUSTAINABLE URBAN MOBILITY USING ICTs

The purpose of this project is to develop a system of multidisciplinary analysis that allows new models of sustainable urban mobility to be studied, based on the use of information and communication technologies (domotics, telecommunications, information systems, logistical management), with a view to optimising infrastructures and transport services in cities. In the development of these models, the planning of new transport mobility guidelines will be taken into consideration, along with the promotion of sustainable urban mobility and new means of transport, as well as the fostering of intermodal transport in urban environments.

Hence, the Urbotics project seeks to optimise resources related with transportation in cities: infrastructures, vehicles, personnel, services, etc., improve the mechanisms for decision-making in the design stages of urban mobility models in new actions and existing urban settings; improve the description of aspects related to mobility and transport in cities, so that local, regional and national authorities can have easy and effective access to up-to-date information, which would allow for better urban planning of transport services and their management and maintenance requirements; reduce the energy consumption of primary sources by improving efficiency in transport, reducing travel, optimising existing systems and motivating new systems of transport with low energy consumption; reduce environmental impact as a result of lower energy consumption, described above; improve citizen quality of life, understood from the perspective of comfort, safety and health; and obtain.
