DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE FUNCTIONALISED NANO-FILLERS TO BE INCORPORATED INTO PLASTIC NANO-FILLER MATRICES

As functional characteristics in the construction sector, the project will make reference to the new characteristics obtained by nano-structured fillers that open the door to different uses of construction elements and which integrate various services. The main functions demanded by the project are outlined below:

  • Self-extinguishing characteristics (fire-proofing) of the polymer matrix in which the filler material is dispersed, until the EuroClass B s1 d0 classification is obtained.
  • Filtering of solar radiation, allowing light through in the visible spectrum (wavelengths between 750 - 400 nm) but not infra-red radiation (wavelengths between 1 mm - 750 nm), with a view to improving the thermal behaviour of the building. This will prevent IR radiation from entering the building in summer and will also avoid heat transferral by radiation to the outside in winter, through glazed surfaces; of course, without damaging the transmission of the visible spectrum.
  • Filtering of solar radiation, allowing light through in the visible spectrum but not infra-red radiation (wavelengths between 400 nm – 10 nm) to filter out high energy radiation which can be harmful to human health.
  • Filtering of solar radiation, allowing light through in the visible spectrum but not infra-red radiation (wavelengths between 400 nm – 10 nm), to avoid the deterioration of the polymer matrix in which the filler material is dispersed, known as yellowing, an important aspect in the service behaviour of the element (mechanical properties, optical properties, etc.) and in the aesthetic character of the building.
