DEVELOPMENT OF COMPUTER TOOLS FOR THE INCLUSION IN THE CALCULATION OF RADIATION, NATURAL LIGHT AND RADIATIVE COOLING

The general objective of the project is to integrate the contribution of the reflected quantities from the surrounding areas and the radiant cooling potential of the night sky, in the determination of the irradiance and natural light in the surface of interest (such as the envelope of a building, plane for a solar energy capturing device). This process is of singular interest in high-density urban environments and will effectively extend the use of renewable resources 24 hours a day.

The treatment of both contributions has been approached in a rigorous fashion, separated from other developments that use simplified versions far away from physical reality.

The achievement of the project’s objectives has resulted in the following functionalities:

1. Procedure for the "fast" and precise determination of the surfaces’ reflectances of an urban environment.

2. Mathematical model of the contribution of irradiance and illuminance reflected by the surfaces of the urban environment.

3. Procedure for determining the contribution of natural light in indoor spaces.

4. Mathematical model of the radiant potential of night cooling in complex urban environments.

5. Set of computer tools for the calculation and representation of sky’s irradiance and illuminance, reflected irradiance and illuminance, and radiative cooling. They include web and desktop tools.
