Educational building based on energy efficiency, functionality and adaptability to its close environment

The IES Tierra Estella is one of the last educational centers designed by ah asociados for the Government of Navarre. It is a building with environmental criteria (energy certification B). In compliance with the program and the established requirements, there is no plot saturation and is suitable to the urban and immediate environment.

The initial design of the educational center included a possible extension of a floor, without affecting neither the general functioning nor the main functional structure of the building. Finally, this expansion is performed in a single phase: basement floor, ground floor, first floor and second floor.

Additionally, a sports center has been designed that contains basement, ground floor and first floor, which allow a possible extension of the second floor. It is a diaphanous building, with an inverted deck that can be used for sports.

A series of measures have been applied for this building, that have clearly favored the execution of the building. This not only reduces the execution time, but has also reduced costs and improved the potential environmental impact of this building throughout the entire life cycle. One of these measures has been to minimize the possible interference that might occur between the development of the center's daily activities and future expansions.

These objectives are defined by the buildings (IES + polideportivo) that have been executed with a prefabricated concrete structure with which a reduction of waste and the consumption of water are ignited; the use of photovoltaic and solar thermal panels; a correct orientation of north-south buildings to achieve greater use of solar radiation and the provision of a mixed façade applied to the facing brick facade, combined with the phenolic panel façade. In turn, mechanisms have been installed for controling the consumption of water and electricity, helping to regulate the interior temperature of the building.
