48 Dwellings in the Former Maristas School, Pamplona
The new development comprises two distinct and newly built volumes which maintain consistent reference levels between them. The cornice line of the shared commercial ground floor of both blocks is compositionally linked to the monumental ground-floor body of the former school building. The scheme consists of a commercial plinth and two residential blocks, G+7 (including 2 penthouse storeys), facing Avenida de Galicia, with cantilevered projections towards the avenue.
The design is conceived with the aim of delivering a high-quality product in which the building’s image reflects the internal organisational principles, featuring two differentiated façades. On the one hand, the south façade, facing Avenida de Galicia and corresponding to the daytime living areas, is characterised by the presence of terraces, in contrast to the more solid and enclosed northern façade. Accordingly, a façade system of aluminium trays is proposed, with a texture scaled proportionally to the building in order to lighten its appearance and introduce visual dynamics. A bronze finish has been selected to establish a dialogue with the existing building and its extension, while the terrace fronts adopt a finish similar to the sandstone of the original structure
