University of Navarra Sports Center

Pamplona
 - 1994

The intervention preserves the role of the Campus as a major public park, incorporating the new sports facilities into a single, semi-buried volume embedded into the hillside. The building—comprising a multi-sports hall, a pelota court, and tennis courts—responds to the site’s topography through a series of stepped incisions that articulate the varying internal heights of the programmatic elements. The natural slope is utilized to anchor an asymmetrical structure oriented northward, ensuring consistent diffuse lighting while establishing visual continuity with the Campus. This strategy eliminates residual spaces and generates a seamless central void connected to the existing parkland. The structural system consists of long-span prestressed concrete columns and beams, supporting prefabricated roofing panels interspersed with linear skylights. The façade combines U-glass with a perforated shading mesh, while a cantilevered concrete canopy marks the entrance and emphasizes the contrast between opacity and transparency.
